In the recent years one hobby has come to the forefront and that is hang gliding. It is a kind of adventure sports. The hobby requires the real courage of the person involved in it. The requirement is usually a hang glider, suitable place to fly and a person with lots and lots of courage to undertake the flight.

The hang gliding actually provides the person involved to fly like a bird and enjoy the scenic beauty below from the top simultaneously providing the thrill of the flight. The hang glider is actually a heavy kite like object weighing approximately 50 to 60 kilograms. The pilot attaches (ties) himself to the control bar of the hang glider and runs from the slope of a hill or hillock holding and lifting the hang glider along with him to get air borne. After he gets air borne he can attain height as per the prevailing wind conditions and he can enjoy the flight along with the scenic beauty portrayed below him.

The hang glider is not a costly affair as compared to the joy it provides to the flier. A flier is required to have a helmet and harness beside the hang glider. Many clubs provide the equipments required for the hobby in India.

In India many centers have come up in the country for the promotion of this hobby. Currently the Billing and Dharamkot in Himachal Pradesh, Kalahatti in Tamil Nadu, and few other spots in the Sikkim, North East and Uttaranchal are actively supporting this hobby. Slowly as the awareness of the people in this hobby is increasing and at the same time more and more facilities are coming up to support this hobby. a
