Origami

This hobby attracts specially the children and women more than the adult males. The origami has its roots extended to Japan where it came to the existence. Actually it is a collection of paper folding technique to give you beautiful art pieces as the end product. Usually few numbers of folds and creases are applied on a square piece of paper which may have any color but in general white paper is used. When all folds are applied on the paper then the end product is a beautiful and complex design. In this art we usually incorporate the geometrical folds and creases. The best part of this art is there is no requirement of adhesive glue or scissors for cutting the paper. The origami is being practiced since 16th Century in China and Japan. It became to the knowledge of the outer world in the year 1960.

The paper is generally used to make the various models; the weight of the paper which is generally used is from 70 to 90 gsm and can be found easily in the name of photocopy paper. Papers of higher weight may be used for this purpose, usually higher weight of the paper around 100 gsm or more is used when there is round shapes are to be incorporated in the model and it is achieved through wet folding technique. When the paper dries up it gives a permanent round shape. 

           

Special origami papers are available in the market with wide variety of sizes which range from 2.5 to 25 cms. The paper is usually colored on one side and the other side of the paper is kept white in color. Another type of paper available for the purpose of origami is the foil backed paper. This is achieved by gluing the paper in the foil sheets. This kind of paper is generally used for making complex models. Another type of paper is also available which is known as the Washi, this paper is specially made for the use in origami. This paper is very strong and very much suitable for making the thin parts of the model like the legs of the insect etc. This paper is very thin and often coated with the wheat paste.

The origami is a kind of hobby which engulfs the hobbyist totally till the person ends up with a beautiful creation. For decorating in the house or else.
