Railway Modeling
This hobby is for those who are particularly interested in the railways and the railway trains. This hobby is about making the working models of the railways and the trains running on it, the hobby attracts children and the adults alike. Railway modeling is always based on the scale models of the trains and the tracks. The power is provided to the model by the use of the electricity or the battery, use of any other mode of power is generally avoided. Although this form of the hobby is very rare in India but a select few practice the hobby religiously. The medium of construction is restricted to wood and fiberglass and plastics, pre fabricated kits are also available which use the plastic, fiberglass and metal molded parts extensively.
The railway modeling includes the making of the engine, coaches, tracks, layout of the surroundings, signaling and level crossings etc. Hobby shops in India are still not prepared to cater for this hobby yet. The rail modelers in India still use wood mostly, as the medium of construction. Any soft wood of good quality may be used for the model making. For the supply of the kits and the spares they are still depended on the foreign suppliers.
When the models are made and painted, it present the familiar look of the trains on which we use to travel on number of occasions. Beside that while operating these models all real situations like changing of the tracks, proper response to the signals are emulated by the models. There are two ways available to control these models first is manually and the second option is through the use of the remote controls. Most of the times great care is taken that to emulates all the features of the engine and associated coaches like the functioning of the head light, horns, incase of the electric traction engines the retraction and extension of the traction arms of the engines.

These models are very durable and long lasting if you take proper care for the maintenance and upkeep of the models. The Railway modeling is fun and is waiting with open arms for the future railway modelers from India.
